ABOUT US
URCreation is a specialist creative workshop provider set up in late 2014 by Artists James Whatley and Alexandra Vacaroiu. We establish meaningful links between artists, vulnerable adults and engage the general public through creative practice.
James is a social care manager and has a background in crafts and in music, he holds a HND in contemporary crafts and also in 3D design from Brighton University and has been involved with the London music scene playing in many bands and putting on club nights for charity. He worked in the public sector for almost 10 years at a ‘not for profit’ organisation, holding creative workshops for adults with learning disabilities internally. This gave him the chance to practise the skills needed to develop programmes that are both beneficial and meaningful for service users. He has worked in various environments supporting groups and individuals.
Alexandra is an art teacher and holds an MA in Photography at the University of the Arts London, which explored the therapeutic effects of photography. She volunteered with the Alzheimer's Society for six months, before working alongside both the Alzheimer's Society and Age Camden UK. She attended talks around the idea of art as a therapy for older, more vulnerable communities and managed the participation of the elderly, some suffering with dementia. This provided us with contacts for further collaboration with psychiatrists, therapists and others who have done practical work in this area. Among her achievements: longlisted for Art Aesthetica Prize, screening at the Institute of Contemporary Arts at London Short Film Festival and at the V&A, exhibition at the Photographers Gallery, part of the FreshFaced and Wildeyed competition.
We have a strong background in the public sector, working with vulnerable adults, community participation and involving people in creative practices. We have developed programmes that are both beneficial and meaningful for service users, their friends and families. We have become adept at one to one support and leading workshops, helping people to experience new practices or evolving their current creative practice in a wide number of mediums. All artists are DBS checked.

ONE TO ONE SESSIONS
OUR RATES
Workshops
-
Initial consultations are free of charge.
-
We will then provide a proposal and a quotation of how much it will cost.
-
The cost can be met in a variety of ways and we will discuss this at the initial consultation.
We also offer one to one sessions in all the areas that we provide workshops in, these are service user led and are designed in a way to progress and develop the service users creative practice. This can be a great way to help meet person centred plan goals or meta outcomes. You will work one to one with an artist with a background in your chosen field who will aim to install a feeling of wellbeing and accomplishment by the completion of projects decided on together. We will aim to exhibit completed projects offering participants the chance to engage positively with the community and local artists as they themselves become exhibiting artists.
We will come to meet you to discuss what you would like achieve and how you would like to achieve it, offering an expert opinion on your ideas, this initial consultation will be free of charge. We will then decided if sessions can be held at your home or our studio.
We provide a wide range of artistic workshops in photography, painting, drawing, music, crafts, ceramics, storytelling and many more especially tailored for your client group. We will come and meet your service users, discuss your ideas and formulate a workshop that is right for you. We will make an assessment of your service users needs and develop a workshop to achieve the outcomes they desire as well as meeting their needs. We will create non-judgmental activities within the workshop to help meet participants’ needs and make them feel comfortable. Normally workshop groups are between 10 and 20 but we will consider any size group. We can work on site if you have a suitable space or we can research your local area to find one. Prices are competitive, but do vary according to what is being delivered, we will provide a free quotation. URCreation hopes to engage the local and artistic communities whilst giving an opportunity for Artists to display their work and will be exhibiting a selection of works by participants created in our workshops at a London based gallery (TBC) in 2016.
